Distinguished Service Medal GVI Category_Miniature Bars Speech to the House ofThe DSM was expanded during World War Two to include the Merchant Navy and Army, the WRNS and RAF personnel serving aboard ships. Second award bars issued during the war do not carry the date of award on the reverse unlike those of World War One. As in the First World War the majority of awards issued to foreign nationals were issued un named.
