Portable Sundial with String Gnomon PERSONALISEDGIFTS it’s the perfect solution whenAlthough not intended for accurate timekeeping, our portable sundial is a complete, functional replica of an design by F Cox of London from the late 1700s. A simple piece of string acts as the gnomon which casts the shadow and is set for latitudes around 50 degrees North, so will be most accurate in the south of England, northern Europe, Canada and so on. The whole instrument is oriented in the meridian by means of a magnetic compass in the base, and
